I traded the tennis racquet for a guitar at the tender age of seven. My Mom insisted that I take classical guitar lessons, but it wasn’t long before I was caught up in the tidal wave of folk music of the time.
I started writing my own songs in the sixth grade. While I always shared my songs with friends, it wasn’t until around 1996 that I began to feel the urge to share my music with a wider audience. I started to go to the weekly open mic at the Colonial Inn in Concord , MA where I met Ellen Schmidt, who along with Jake Kissinger ran the open mic on Sunday nights. With Ellen’s warm and consistent encouragement, I began to gain some confidence in my ability to reach people with my music.
Since that time, under the supremely competent and loving tutelage of Seth Connelly, I have produced two CD’s: Between Us Two and My Way To You.
No bio would be complete without touching on my relationship with my brother, Daniel. He was six years older than I and a major influence, musically. More than half the songs on Between Us Two are his, and three of his songs are on My Way To You. Sadly, Daniel suffered from chronic schizophrenia and committed suicide in 1980.
For anyone who happens upon this site- hope you like the music, and thanks for listening.
Take Care,
Laura
